Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary

The Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary is the largest breeding place of the turtles. Situated in the Kendrapara District of Odisha(Orissa). It is a protected area and forms part of the Bhitarkanika Sanctuary and National Park. Spread over an area of over 1435 square kilometers, the Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary is a picturesque place to visit for the nature lovers. The breeding ground at Gahirmatha (mouth of Dhamra River) is considered to be one of the largest nesting grounds for the giant Olive Ridleys.Gahirmatha Turtle Sanctuary draws huge footfalls of tourists who come to see these wonderful creatures.
