A tiger reserve has approved on papers in sanctuaries of Satkosia George and Basippalli. Pug marks of 18 tigers and 36 leopards were collected in the year 2004 from both these sanctuaries. The flora of this region is dominated by Moist Deciduous Forests, Dry Mixed Deciduous Forest, Bamboo Brakes, Dry Tropical Riparian Forest and Teak Plantations. The proposed tiger reserves have been serving as the natural habitat for many endangered species like endangered Gharial, the Mugger crocodiles (Crocodylus palustris) and a variety of freshwater turtles. Other faunal elements include Leopard, Wild dog, Gaur, Nilgai, Sambar, Spotted Deer, Barking Deer, Bear, Ratel, Jackal, Porcupine, Indian Hare, and Giant Squirrel etc. It also support a wide range of species of resident birds including Hornbills, Peafowl, Kingfishers, Egrets, Cormorants, River Tern, Owls, Pigeons, Myna, Parakeets, Drongo, Doves, Woodpecker, Gulls, Golden Oriole, Vultures, Babblers, Barbets, Minivets, Sun Bird, Eagle, Crow Pheasants etc. The migratory birds visiting these reserves include Brahminy Ducks, Bar Headed Geese etc.
Sunabeda Tiger Reserve:- An estimate collected in the year 2004 confirmed the presence of 36 tigers in this reserve. Sunabeda forests are the sites for proposed tiger reserve. The other carnivores of these jungles includes leopard, wolf and wild dogs while Hard Ground Barasingha and wild buffalos are the prominent herbivores.
